Abstract: The paper presents the development and performance of the $^{57}$Fe Synchrotron Mössbauer Source (SMS) at the beamline P01 at PETRA III. A detailed description of the experimental setup is provided, including the optical elements and the critical role of high-quality iron borate crystals used as the Mössbauer source. The performance of the SMS is demonstrated through measurements of $α$-iron and the single-line absorber, K$_2$Mg$^{57}$Fe(CN)$_6$, underlying the system's capability for precise energy resolution. These results highlight SMS as a powerful tool for advanced material studies, particularly in fields requiring small beam size.
