Abstract: The MIMAC project aims at the directional detection of dark matter using a gaseous Time Projection Chamber (TPC) which enables the measurement of the energy and the track of low energy nuclear recoils. A 5-liter prototype has been developed and operated during several months. In this paper, after a description of the detector and the calibration procedure, we report the first results of the background studies.
