Abstract: I discuss the procedure of interpolating from scales lower than, or similar to the quark masses m_H, to those much higher than m_H via the use of a General Mass Variable flavour Number Scheme (GM-VFNS). The precise definitions used in MRST and MST W global fits are explained and the consequences for the extracted parton distributions investigated.
