Abstract: The simulation of hadronic showers requires information of experimental data to compute cross sections and final states in hadron nucleus interactions. A comparison of pion test data of the H1 liquid argon calorimeter and the monte carlo program GHEISHA as implemented in GEANT3.14/16 is presented. Good agreement is achieved in the energy range from 5 to 80 GeV. At high energies (205 GeV) too many neutral pions with high $\it x_{F}$ are produced in the simulation data. Therefore an improved version of GHEISHA was worked out and compared with the H1 test data. A better agreement at high pion energies could be achieved.
