Abstract: We present an update of the PhLAM-DESY project aiming at developing novel electro-optic diagnostics destined to record electron bunch shapes (and THz pulses in general). When high repetition rate operation is needed, a very efficient technique consists of probing the electric waveform of interest in an electro-optically active crystal using chirped laser probes. However, if used without special care, this technique has also been known to present serious limitations in terms of resolution and fidelity of the measurements, especially in the case of long recording windows and/or short electron bunches. In this study, we explored solutions to this problem, that are based on the so-called diversity concept. The principle is to design an electro-optic measurement system with multiple outputs. For special designs, it is possible to show that the information is sufficient to faithfully retrieve the electric field to be measured. We review the principle of the method, numerical results, as well as the status of experimental developments at European XFEL and FLASH.
