Abstract: Magnetic fields play an important role in many astrophysical and cosmological situations. The evolution of primordial seed fields crucially depends on the amount of helicity and the properties of the velocity field. On the other hand, magnetic fields can serve as an agent for possible signatures of dark matter in the form of annihilating weakly interacting massive particles, through induced synchrotron radiation of charged annihilation products, and for a possible mixing of axion-like particles and other light states with photons in scenarios beyond the Standard Model. In the context of project C9 of the SFB 676 we investigated both the seeding and evolution of magnetic fields and their effects on other processes.
