Abstract: Multiquark states having four and five valence quarks, called tetraquarks and pentaquarks, respectively, are now firmly established experimentally, with the number of such independent states increasing steadily over the years. They represent a new facet of QCD, but the underlying dynamics is currently poorly understood. I review some selected aspects of data and discuss several competing phenomenological models put forward to accommodate them.
