Abstract: We analyse the recent high energy e + e − data from PETRA in the context of QCD. Our analysis takes into account single and double gluon bremsstrahlung, the weak decays of the bottom and charm quarks, and the Q 2 -dependence of the fragmentation functions in the spirit of QCD. An attempt is made to extract the QCD coupling constant α s ( Q 2 ).
