Abstract: The International Linear Collider is a linear $e^{+}e^−$ accelerator, which is unique due to the clean environment and its capability for high precision measurements. To achieve these goals the backgrounds for linear colliders have to be understood in great detail, and both, the machine and the detectors, have to be optimized towards that goal. Not only beam-beam induced backgrounds but also machine backgrounds were simulated and their impact on the SiD detector performance were studied with respect to different SiD design choices. From these studies several suggestions towards machine and detector optimizations are brought forward.
