Performance of Missing Transverse Momentum Reconstruction in ATLAS studied in Proton-Proton Collisions recorded in 2012 at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV

Report No.: ATLAS-CONF-2013-082

Abstract: The performance of the missing transverse momentum reconstruction in the ATLASdetector is evaluated using data collected in 2012 in proton-proton collisions at a centre-ofmassenergy of 8 TeV. An optimised reconstruction and calibration of the missing transversemomentum is used and the effects arising from additional proton-proton interactionssuperimposed on the hard physics process are suppressed with various methods. Results areshown for a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 20 fb􀀀1 and forevents with different topologies with or without genuine missing transverse momentum dueto undetected particles. Estimates of the systematic uncertainty on the missing transversemomentum measurement are also presented.
