Abstract: This note describes the core functionality of the MarlinKinfit packagefor performing constrained kinematic fits. It provides a modular frame-work in which particles and constraints among them can be combined ina flexible way to describe any desired event hypothesis. The actual min-imisation is done by a fit engine which can be exchanged independentlyfrom the event hypothsis. The mathematics behind the basic fit engine inthe package is described in detail. In the end, an example application isgiven.
