Abstract: We present the recent progress and preliminary results of a sub-millijoule terahertz (THz) driven electron gun. 36keV maximum acceleration energy is achieved in the experiment. The characteristics of the experimental setup and the performance of the electron source are discussed in detail. This study is of particular interest for THz driven electron accelerators operating with high pulse energies.
