Abstract: In this thesis, the Drell-Yan production is described in next-to-leading order (NLO)with transverse momentum dependent parton densities (TMDs). The NLO method MC@NLOis applied for the hard process calculation and is combined with TMDs obtained within theparton branching (PB) method (PB-TMDs). Predictions are computed at center-of-massenergies of 8 TeV and 13 TeV and compared to ATLAS measurements at 8 TeV and CMSmeasurements at 13 TeV. The predictions agree well with the measurements especiallyin the region of low transverse momenta. The theoretical uncertainties are dominated byscale dependences while the TMD uncertainties are small.Effective TMDs are obtained from the parton showers of the Monte Carlo event generatorsPYTHIA8 and HERWIG6 by calculating the cumulative effect of the shower to compare detailsof different parton shower approaches, for instance different ordering conditions. Amethod to validate a TMD parton shower is discussed, and TMDs are obtained from thisshower.A Drell-Yan analysis with CMS Open Data at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is presentedwith a focus on the transverse momentum resolution and the transverse momentumspectrum of the Drell-Yan pair. The results of the data are compared to the Monte Carlosimulation and a general good agreement is observed.
