Abstract: The continuum limit of a Z 4 gauge plus matter lattice theory is identified with massless scalar and vector fields with quartic self-interactions φ 4 and ( A μ A μ ) 2 , Σ μ A μ 4 , respectively. The analysis is based on the mean field approximation after gauge fixing.
