Abstract: At the LHC, the production of jets has the highest cross section out of all processes. Therefore, jets are important objects for calibration, reconstruction and identification at the CMS experiment. In this thesis, the calibration of the jet energy scale with respect to residual differences between data and simulation after simulation-based precalibrations is shown. A correction for the $\sqrt{\textrm{s}}=8~\textrm{TeV}$ run of 2012 depending on jet transverse momentum and pseudorapidity is derived using di-jet final states. Furthermore, the capacity of jets to be misidentified as hadronically decaying $\tau$ leptons is demonstrated. A method for an approximate simulation based description of this property is shown in the context of a search for supersymmetry in vector boson fusion final states.
