abstract = {DESY (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron) has been a center
of German high energy physics (HEP) research since 1959 with
on-site experiments and theoretical research. Since the turn
of the century, the research scope has evolved beyond HEP.
With the PETRA-III or FLASH facilities on site and the
collaboration within the European XFEL, DESY has become a
