%X DESY is currently planning an upgrade of PETRA IIIto a 4th generation light source. The upgrade involves pre-installing and aligning magnetic lattice components on exten-sive girders before their installation in the tunnel. However, the long girders on the moving steps between concrete ele-ments and the potential misalignment of the magnets presentsignificant challenges for the PETRA IV lattice, particularlyin maintaining beam storage within the ring. Previous com-missioning simulations indicated the necessity for relativelyhigh corrector strengths in the orbit correction system. Toaddress this issue, a simulation study was conducted to ex-plore the feasibility of beam-based girder alignment cor-rection as a means to mitigate the need for high correctorstrengths during machine operation. The results of this studyare presented and discussed with an outlook towards futureimplementation.
