Abstract: The lecture will focus on the current investigation of small supermolecular systems mimicking atmospheric heterogeneous chemistry and photochemistry occurring in more complex biomolecular systems. After a brief introduction to molecular beam techniques, electrostatic deflection, and velocity map imaging, we will discuss how the solvation of molecules crucially affects their photostability and opens additional pathways for the relaxation dynamics in comparison to isolated molecules. This will be presented on our investigation of pyrrole-water fragmentation induced via singly ionizing IR-pulse followed by x-ray free electron laser probe. Furthermore, the importance of hydrogen bonding will be discussed together with our findings of several novel strong-field-induced reaction pathways in the water dimer system. Lastly, I will present a brief outlook into our currently ongoing experiments studying the dynamics of the water dimer fragmentation using the disruptive probing method.
