Thesmall beam emittance translates directly into much smaller beam sizes of about 7 μmhorizontally and 3 μm vertically at insertion device source points, thus imposing stringentrequirements on the machine’s stability. To measure beam position and control orbitstability to the required level of accuracy, a high-resolution BPM system consisting ofapprox. 800 individual monitors will be installed. Its readout electronics will be based onMTCA.4 as a technical platform. To fulfill the long-term drift requirement (< 1 μm over 6days), the concept of crossbar-switching was extended in a way that the analog RF switchmatrix is separated from the readout electronics and placed as close to the BPM pickupas possible, therefore enabling the stabilization of the RF cables. A new RTM card withseveral analog and digital parts taken from the Libera Brilliance+ has been developed andis currently used as the BPM electronic front end. At present, a fully populated MTCAcrate with 6 2BPMRTM and 6 commercial AMC boards for the readout of 12 BPMs isinstalled at PETRA III. This thesis is a performance evaluation of the new system andsummarizes the latest beam measurements, showing that the performance requirementsfor PETRA IV are met.
