Deviations from a smoothly falling background hypothesis are tested in three- and four-body invariant mass distributions constructed from leptons and jets, including jets identified as originating from bottom quarks. Model-independent limits on generic resonances characterised by cascade decays of particles leading to multiple jets and leptons in the final state are presented. The limits are calculated using Gaussian shapes with different widths for the invariant masses. The multi-body invariant masses are also used to set 95\% confidence level upper limits on the cross-section times branching ratios for the production and subsequent decay of resonances predicted by several new physics scenarios.[graphic not available: see fulltext]}, keywords = {p p: scattering (INSPIRE) / p p: colliding beams (INSPIRE) / resonance: production (INSPIRE) / width: difference (INSPIRE) / resonance: decay modes (INSPIRE) / jet: pair production (INSPIRE) / final state: ((n)jet lepton) (INSPIRE) / final state: ((n)jet dilepton) (INSPIRE) / jet: bottom (INSPIRE) / bottom: particle identification (INSPIRE) / electron (INSPIRE) / muon (INSPIRE) / ATLAS (INSPIRE) / new physics: search for (INSPIRE) / channel cross section: branching ratio: upper limit (INSPIRE) / cascade decay (INSPIRE) / mass spectrum: (jet jet lepton) (INSPIRE) / mass spectrum: (jet jet 2lepton) (INSPIRE) / jet: transverse momentum (INSPIRE) / lepton: transverse momentum (INSPIRE) / CERN LHC Coll (INSPIRE) / background (INSPIRE) / Z': mass: lower limit (INSPIRE) / W': mass: lower limit (INSPIRE) / experimental results (INSPIRE) / 13000 GeV-cms (INSPIRE) / Hadron-Hadron Scattering (autogen) / Particle and Resonance Production (autogen)}, cin = {ATLAS / DOOR ; HAS-User}, ddc = {530}, cid = {I:(DE-H253)ATLAS-20120731 / I:(DE-H253)HAS-User-20120731}, pnm = {611 - Fundamental Particles and Forces (POF4-611)}, pid = {G:(DE-HGF)POF4-611}, experiment = {EXP:(DE-H253)LHC-Exp-ATLAS-20150101}, typ = {PUB:(DE-HGF)16}, eprint = {2211.08945}, howpublished = {arXiv:2211.08945}, archivePrefix = {arXiv}, SLACcitation = {$\%\%CITATION$ = $arXiv:2211.08945;\%\%$}, UT = {WOS:001062358800001}, doi = {10.1007/JHEP07(2023)202}, url = {https://bib-pubdb1.desy.de/record/598865}, }
