With the simultaneous use of dilatometry and high-energy X-ray diffraction, it was possible to follow not onlythe global progress of the austenitization, but also the individual evolutions of each phase (ferrite, cementite and retained austenite ifpresent in the initial microstructure). The results confirm earlier published data regarding the ease of austenitization of different initialmicrostructures (ferrite–pearlite, bainite and tempered martensite). More importantly, two stages were clearly identified, correspondingto the simultaneous transformation of ferrite and cementite, followed by the progressive disappearance of the remaining ferrite. Whilethis is well known for ferrite–pearlite microstructures, it is not yet documented for bainite and tempered martensite. Microstructure evolutioncalculations based on a diffusion-controlled mechanism helped rationalize the differences observed between the three initial microstructures.In addition, they also strongly suggested the existence of a critical carbide size beyond which the second austenitization phasewould correspond to carbide dissolution instead of ferrite transformation. 000221888 536__ $$0G:(DE-HGF)POF3-6G3$$a6G3 - PETRA III (POF3-622)$$cPOF3-622$$fPOF III$$x0 000221888 536__ $$0G:(DE-H253)POF2-P07-20130405$$aPETRA Beamline P07 (POF2-54G14)$$cPOF2-54G14$$fPOF II$$x1 000221888 588__ $$aDataset connected to CrossRef 000221888 693__ $$0EXP:(DE-H253)P-P07-20150101$$1EXP:(DE-H253)PETRAIII-20150101$$6EXP:(DE-H253)P-P07-20150101$$aPETRA III$$fPETRA Beamline P07$$x0 000221888 7001_ $$0P:(DE-H253)PIP1017950$$aDenand, B.$$b1 000221888 7001_ $$0P:(DE-HGF)0$$aLe Bihan, Qu.$$b2 000221888 7001_ $$0P:(DE-H253)PIP1016400$$aDehmas, M.$$b3 000221888 7001_ $$0P:(DE-H253)PIP1016450$$aTeixeira, J.$$b4 000221888 7001_ $$0P:(DE-H253)PIP1016401$$aGeandier, G.$$b5 000221888 7001_ $$0P:(DE-H253)PIP1016514$$aDenis, S.$$b6 000221888 7001_ $$0P:(DE-HGF)0$$aSourmail, T.$$b7 000221888 7001_ $$0P:(DE-H253)PIP1016495$$aAeby-Gautier, E.$$b8 000221888 773__ $$0PERI:(DE-600)2014621-8$$a10.1016/j.actamat.2014.07.042$$gVol. 80, p. 118 - 131$$p118 - 131$$tActa materialia$$v80$$x1359-6454$$y2014 000221888 8564_ $$uhttps://bib-pubdb1.desy.de/record/221888/files/Esin_ActaMat_2014.pdf$$yRestricted 000221888 8564_ $$uhttps://bib-pubdb1.desy.de/record/221888/files/Esin_ActaMat_2014.gif?subformat=icon$$xicon$$yRestricted 000221888 8564_ $$uhttps://bib-pubdb1.desy.de/record/221888/files/Esin_ActaMat_2014.jpg?subformat=icon-1440$$xicon-1440$$yRestricted 000221888 8564_ $$uhttps://bib-pubdb1.desy.de/record/221888/files/Esin_ActaMat_2014.jpg?subformat=icon-180$$xicon-180$$yRestricted 000221888 8564_ $$uhttps://bib-pubdb1.desy.de/record/221888/files/Esin_ActaMat_2014.jpg?subformat=icon-640$$xicon-640$$yRestricted 000221888 8564_ $$uhttps://bib-pubdb1.desy.de/record/221888/files/Esin_ActaMat_2014.pdf?subformat=pdfa$$xpdfa$$yRestricted 000221888 909CO $$ooai:bib-pubdb1.desy.de:221888$$pVDB 000221888 9101_ $$0I:(DE-HGF)0$$6P:(DE-H253)PIP1017950$$aExternes Institut$$b1$$k>Extern 000221888 9101_ $$0I:(DE-HGF)0$$6P:(DE-H253)PIP1016400$$aExternes Institut$$b3$$k>Extern 000221888 9101_ $$0I:(DE-HGF)0$$6P:(DE-H253)PIP1016450$$aExternes Institut$$b4$$k>Extern 000221888 9101_ $$0I:(DE-HGF)0$$6P:(DE-H253)PIP1016401$$aExternes Institut$$b5$$k>Extern 000221888 9101_ $$0I:(DE-HGF)0$$6P:(DE-H253)PIP1016514$$aExternes Institut$$b6$$k>Extern 000221888 9101_ $$0I:(DE-HGF)0$$6P:(DE-H253)PIP1016495$$aExternes Institut$$b8$$k>Extern 000221888 9132_ $$0G:(DE-HGF)POF3-622$$1G:(DE-HGF)POF3-620$$2G:(DE-HGF)POF3-600$$9G:(DE-HGF)POF3-6G3$$aDE-HGF$$bForschungsbereich Materie$$lVon Materie zu Materialien und Leben$$vFacility topic: Research on Matter with Brilliant Light Sources$$x0 000221888 9131_ $$0G:(DE-HGF)POF3-622$$1G:(DE-HGF)POF3-620$$2G:(DE-HGF)POF3-600$$3G:(DE-HGF)POF3$$4G:(DE-HGF)POF$$9G:(DE-HGF)POF3-6G3$$aDE-HGF$$bForschungsbereich Materie$$lVon Materie zu Materialien und Leben$$vFacility topic: Research on Matter with Brilliant Light Sources$$x0 000221888 9131_ $$0G:(DE-HGF)POF2-54G14$$1G:(DE-HGF)POF2-540$$2G:(DE-HGF)POF2-500$$3G:(DE-HGF)POF2$$4G:(DE-HGF)POF$$9G:(DE-H253)POF2-P07-20130405$$aDE-H253$$bStruktur der Materie$$lForschung mit Photonen, Neutronen, Ionen$$vPETRA III$$x1 000221888 9141_ $$y2014 000221888 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0100$$2StatID$$aJCR$$bACTA MATER : 2013 000221888 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0200$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bSCOPUS 000221888 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0300$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bMedline 000221888 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0199$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bThomson Reuters Master Journal List 000221888 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0110$$2StatID$$aWoS$$bScience Citation Index 000221888 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0150$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bWeb of Science Core Collection 000221888 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)0111$$2StatID$$aWoS$$bScience Citation Index Expanded 000221888 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)1150$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bCurrent Contents - Physical, Chemical and Earth Sciences 000221888 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)1160$$2StatID$$aDBCoverage$$bCurrent Contents - Engineering, Computing and Technology 000221888 915__ $$0StatID:(DE-HGF)9900$$2StatID$$aIF < 5 000221888 9201_ $$0I:(DE-H253)HZG-20120731$$kHZG$$lZentrum für Material- und Küstenforschung$$x0 000221888 980__ $$ajournal 000221888 980__ $$aVDB 000221888 980__ $$aI:(DE-H253)HZG-20120731 000221888 980__ $$aUNRESTRICTED
