Note: With the high-luminosity phase of the Large Hadron Collider on the horizon, it is imperative to accurately describe the effects of strong interactions for achieving high-precision measurements. Currently, the measurement of the top quark mass is impacted by theoretical uncertainty associated with collider simulations that lack a systematically improvable treatment of the physics of hadronisation. Such limitations also burden the majority of jet substructure measurements, including the related strong coupling determinations. To address these problems, the ERC-funded TOPMASS project aims to leverage recent breakthroughs in energy-energy correlators as a top mass-sensitive probe and novel effective field theory methods for developing a model-independent framework to describe hadronisation effects. These developments will eliminate overreliance on simulations and enable high-precision jet substructure measurements.
