Note: The availability of genomes of multiple Fusarium strains and closely related species (F. graminearum, F. asiaticum, etc.) allows for comparative annotation and highlighting of strain specific genes and other genomic features. The project aims to further refine existing genome annotations and investigate the evolution of single genes and secondary metabolite clusters which helps to re-investigate potential project target genes and gene clusters. Genome-wide analysis of host response and molecular events triggered by Fusarium infection thus far has suffered from the only fragmentary and unstructured genomic information available for the host genomes of barley and wheat. With the availability of datarich and structured genome drafts for these enormous Triticeae genomes important preconditions for the analysis and interpretation of molecular and system-level responses in a genomic context are met. While further developing genomic data resources for these important crop plants as for the fungal pathogens we aim to use and exploit these for the analysis and interpretation of experimental data with a focus towards transcriptome analysis of host and pathogen upon infection and the analysis of regulatory circuits and hierarchies to gain more detailed and in depth insights into the molecular events taking place upon infection. The work will be tightly linked with experimental partners and thus will be highly synergistic and multidisciplinary.
