Prospects for a survey of the galactic plane with the Cherenkov Telescope Array
[arXiv:2310.02828]
 GO
Approximately one hundred sources of very-high-energy (VHE) gamma rays are known in the Milky Way, detected with a combination of targeted observations and surveys. A survey of the entire Galactic Plane in the energy range from a few tens of GeV to a few hundred TeV has been proposed as a Key Science Project for the upcoming Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO). Indirect search for dark matter with a combined analysis of dwarf spheroidal galaxies from VERITAS
[arXiv:2407.16518]
 GO
Understanding the nature and identity of dark matter is a key goal in the physics community. In the case that TeV-scale dark matter particles decay or annihilate into Standard Model particles, very-high-energy (VHE) gamma rays (greater than 100 GeV) will be present in the final state. [...]

Measurements of the branching fractions of $\Xi_{c}^{+}\to \Sigma^{+}K_{S}^{0}$, $\Xi_{c}^{+}\to \Xi^{0}\pi^{+}$, and $\Xi_{c}^{+}\to \Xi^{0}K^{+}$ at Belle and Belle II
[Belle II Preprint 2025-005; KEK Preprint 2025-2; arXiv:2503.17643]
 GO
Using 983.0 $\rm{fb}^{-1}$ and 427.9 $\rm{fb}^{-1}$ data samples collected with the Belle and Belle II detectors at the KEKB and SuperKEKB asymmetric energy $e^+e^-$ colliders, respectively, we present studies of the Cabibbo-favored $\Xi_c^+$ decays ${\Xi_{c}^{+}\to \Sigma^{+}K_{S}^{0}}$ and $\Xi_{c}^{+}\to \Xi^{0}\pi^{+}$, and the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay $\Xi_{c}^{+}\to \Xi^{0}K^{+}$. The ratios of branching fractions of ${\Xi_{c}^{+}\to \Sigma^{+}K_{S}^{0}}$ and $\Xi_{c}^{+}\to \Xi^{0}K^{+}$ relative to that of $\Xi_{c}^{+}\to\Xi^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{+}$ are measured for the first time, while the ratio ${\cal B}(\Xi_{c}^{+}\to\Xi^{0}\pi^{+})/{\cal B}(\Xi_{c}^{+}\to\Xi^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{+}) $ is also determined and improved by an order of magnitude in precision. [...]

Measurement of the Branching Fraction of $\Lambda_c^+ \to p K_S^0 \pi^0$ at Belle
[Belle II Preprint: 2024-022; KEK preprint: 2024-20; arXiv:2503.04371]
We report a precise measurement of the ratio of branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_c^+\to p K_S^0 \pi^0)/\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_c^+\to p K^- \pi^+)$ using 980 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ data from the Belle experiment. We obtain a value of $\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_c^+\to p K_S^0 \pi^0)/\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_c^+\to p K^- \pi^+)=0.339\pm 0.002\pm 0.009$, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Structures of a DNA Polymerase Caught while Incorporating Responsive Dual‐Functional Nucleotide Probes
Angewandte Chemie 137(2), e202414319 () [10.1002/ange.202414319]  GO
Functionalizing nucleic acids using DNA polymerases is essential in biophysical and biotechnology applications. This study focuses on understanding how DNA polymerases recognize and incorporate nucleotides with diverse chemical modifications, aiming to develop advanced nucleotide probes. [...]

Enzymatic oxidation of galacturonides from pectin breakdown contributes to stealth infection by Oomycota phytopathogens
Phytophthora phytopathogens from Oomycota cause devastating crop losses and threaten food security. However, Phytophthora secreted proteins that interact with plant-hosts remain underexplored. [...]

The NADH-dependent flavin reductase ThdF follows an ordered sequential mechanism though crystal structures reveal two FAD molecules in the active site
Two-component flavin-dependent monooxygenases are of great interest as biocatalysts for the production of pharmaceuticals and other relevant molecules, as they catalyze chemically important reactions such as hydroxylation, epoxidation, and halogenation. The monooxygenase components require a separate flavin reductase which provides the necessary reduced flavin cofactor. [...]

Shared mechanisms of enhanced plasmid maintenance and antibiotic tolerance mediated by the VapBC toxin:antitoxin system
mBio 16(2), e02616-24 () [10.1128/mbio.02616-24]  GO
Toxin:antitoxin (TA) systems are widespread in bacteria and were first identified as plasmid addiction systems that kill bacteria lacking a TA-encoding plasmid following cell division. TA systems have also been implicated in bacterial persistence and antibiotic tolerance, which can be precursors of antibiotic resistance. [...]

Activity Regulation of a Glutamine Amidotransferase Bienzyme Complex by Substrate-Induced Subunit Interface Expansion
ACS catalysis 15(5), 4359 - 4373 () [10.1021/acscatal.4c07438]  GO
Glutamine amidotransferases are multienzyme machineries in which reactive ammonia is generated by a glutaminase and then transferred through a sequestered protein tunnel to a synthase active site for incorporation into diverse metabolites. To avoid wasteful metabolite consumption, there is a requirement for synchronized catalysis, but any generally applicable mechanistic insight is still lacking. [...]

Shining light on the dark sector: search for axion-like particles and other new physics in photonic final states with FASER
[CERN-EP-2024-262; arXiv:2410.10363]
The first FASER search for a light, long-lived particle decaying into a pair of photons is reported. The search uses LHC proton-proton collision data at $ \sqrt{s} $ = 13.6 TeV collected in 2022 and 2023, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 57.7 fb$^{−1}$ [...]
