The aim for size and cost reduction of particle accelerators has generated great interest in thedevelopment of novel acceleration techniques beyond the current radio frequency based technology.Those techniques are, for example, dielectric laser accelerators (DLAs) and have thepotential to reduce the size and costs, due to their high field gradients and small acceleration periods.DLAs consist of structures which are characterized by apertures in the µm range, leadingto electron-bunch charges in the pC range. At the SINBAD (Short and INnovative Bunches andAccelerators at DESY) facility at DESY, various techniques are foreseen to be investigated usingthe ARES (Accelerator Research Experiment at SINBAD) linear accelerator.
