Experimental and numerical investigation of residual stresses in laser shock peened AA2198
Laser shock peening (LSP) is a surface treatment which improves the fatigue performance of metallic structures by introducing compressive residual stresses. The aim of this paper is the investigation of LSP of the aluminium alloy AA2198. [...]

Synthesis of metal-intermetallic laminate (MIL) composites with modified Al$_3$Ti structure and in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction analysis of sintering process
Al$_3$Ti-based alloys attract exceptional attention due to their high specific mechanical properties. However, their application is still insufficient due to their low ductility and fracture toughness. [...]

Formation of block-copolymer-templated mesoporous silica
In situ attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy is used to monitor the chemical evolution of the mesoporous silica SBA-15 from hydrolysis of the silica precursor to final silica condensation after the particle formation. Two silica precursors, tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) or sodium metasilicate (SMS) were used, and the effects of additive (heptane and NH$_4$F) concentrations were studied. [...]

Effects of laser processing on the transformation characteristics of NiTi: A contribute to additive manufacturing
Laser additive manufacturing of NiTi generates complex microstructural features not fully understood yet. Thermalsimilarities between lasermicrojoining and laser additivemanufacturing, enables correlating the effect of thelaser on the material in both processes. [...]

The grain boundary pinning effect of the μ phase in an advanced polycrystalline $\gamma /\gamma ′$ Co-base superalloy
A grain boundary pinning phase was introduced into a $\gamma /\gamma ′$ Co-base superalloy by the addition of Mo. Theintermetallic phase was identified as m phase (Co,Ni,Cr)$_7$(W,Mo)$_6$ by high-energy X-ray diffraction andenergy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy in the transmission electron microscope. [...]

A synchrotron X-ray and electron backscatter diffraction based investigation on deformation and failure micro-mechanisms of monotonic and cyclic loading in titanium
Synchrotron X-ray diffraction technique has been used to estimate defect structure in terms of dislocationdensity, crystallite size and micro-strain in commercially pure titanium subjected to tension and cyclic deformationin stress and strain control mode. Statistical analysis of micro-texture data collected from electronbackscatter diffraction approximately from the same region as that of synchrotron X-ray has been used to correlateorientation dependent micro-strain and dislocation density with deformation microstructure and microtexture. Two different orientations, namely, A with prismatic-pyramidal and B with basal orientation along theloading axis has been considered. [...]

Influence of Annealing on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of a Nanocrystalline CrCoNi Medium-Entropy Alloy
Materials 11(5), 662 () [10.3390/ma11050662]  GO
An equiatomic CrCoNi medium-entropy alloy was subjected to high-pressure torsion. This process led to a refinement of the microstructure to a grain size of about 50 nm, combined witha strong increase in the materials hardness. Subsequently, the thermodynamic stability of the mediumentropy alloy was evaluated by isothermal and isochronal heat treatments. [...]

Influence of quasicrystal I-phase on twinning of extruded Mg-Zn-Y alloys under compression
The interaction of the I-phase with twins during compression has been studied in a Mg-6Zn-1Y (wt.%)alloy using the combination of Synchrotron Radiation Diffraction and Acoustic Emission experimentsduring compression tests. The I-phase occurs as coarse particles at grain boundaries and nanosizedprecipitates within magnesium grains. [...]

Toward Optimization of Centrifugal Barrel Polishing P rocedure for Treatment of Niobium Cavities
Centrifugal barrel polishing (CBP) is a simple and environmentally friendly method that can be applied for mechanical abrasion of the cavity interior in order to remove the mechanically damaged surface after its production. The CBP recipes described in the literature, however, require CBP to be performed in many stages, require long processing times and nevertheless are unable to provide good cavity RF performance without additional chemical processing. [...]
