Jitter-correction for IR/UV-XUV pump-probe experiments at the FLASH free-electron laser

In pump-probe experiments employing a free-electron laser (FEL) in combination with a synchronized optical femtosecond laser, the arrival-time jitter between the FEL pulse and the optical laser pulse often severely limits the temporal resolution that can be achieved. Here, we present a pump-probe experiment on the UV-induced dissociation of 2,6-difluoroiodobenzene $(C_{6}H_{3}F_{2}I)$ molecules performed at the FLASH FEL that takes advantage of recent upgrades of the FLASH timing and synchronization system to obtain high-quality data that are not limited by the FEL arrival-time jitter. Hot carrier relaxation in CdTe via phonon–plasmon modes

Quantifying covalent interactions with resonant inelastic soft X-ray scattering: Case study of Ni$^{2+}$ aqua complex

We analyze the effects of covalent interactions in Ni 2p3d resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) spectra from aqueous Ni$^{2+}$ ions and find that the relative RIXS intensities of ligand-to-metal charge-transfer final states with respect to the ligand-field final states reflect the covalent mixing between Ni 3d and water orbitals. Specifically, the experimental intensity ratio at the Ni L$_3$-edge allows to determine that the Ni 3d orbitals have on average 5.5% of water character. [...]

Geometric and electronic properties in a series of phosphorescent heteroleptic Cu(I) complexes : Crystallographic and computational studies

We have investigated the electronic and geometric structures in the lowest excited states of six phosphorescent heteroleptic [CuI(NN)(DPEphos)]$^+$ (DPEphos = bis[(2-diphenylphosphino)phenyl]ether) complexes with varying NN = diimine ligand structures using density functional theory. In comparison to the ground state, the results show a decrease of the dihedral angle between the N–Cu–N and P–Cu–P planes for these excited states with mixed ligand-to-ligand (DPEphos lone pair → π$^∗$(NN)) and metal-to-ligand charge transfer (dπ(Cu) → π$^∗$(NN)) character [...]

We have measured the Recoil Frame - Photoelectron Angular Distributions (RF-PADs) for inner-shell photoionization of CH$_3$F, CH$_3$I and CF$_3$I halomethane molecules for photoelectron energies up to 300 eV detected within a 4π solid angle in the gas-phase. For high kinetic energies, the RF-PADs are dominated by diffraction effects that encode information on the molecular geometry..
