Nanoparticles of Ni(OH)$_2$ surrounded with ultra-low Pt content and supported on functionalized carbon were prepared by a scalable synthesis method and investigated as electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in acidic media. Ligand manipulation of charge transfer excited state relaxation and spin crossover in $\mathrm{[Fe(2,2′-bipyridine)_{2}(CN)_{2}]}$

We have used femtosecond resolution UV-visible and Kβ x-ray emission spectroscopy to characterize the electronic excited state dynamics of $\mathrm{[Fe(bpy)_{2}(CN)_{2}]}$, where bpy=2,2'-bipyridine, initiated by metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) excitation. The excited-state absorption in the transient UV-visible spectra, associated with the 2,2'-bipyridine radical anion, provides a robust marker for the MLCT excited state, while the transient Kβ x-ray emission spectra provide a clear measure of intermediate and high spin metal-centered excited states. We explore time-resolved Coulomb explosion induced by intense, extreme ultraviolet (XUV) femtosecond pulses from a free-electron laser as a method to image photo-induced molecular dynamics in two molecules, iodomethane and 2,6-difluoroiodobenzene. At an excitation wavelength of 267 nm, the dominant reaction pathway in both molecules is neutral dissociation via cleavage of the carbon–iodine bond. [...]
