High-pressure nuclear inelastic scattering with backscattering monochromatization
The capability to perform high-pressure low-temperature nuclear inelastic scattering on $^{125}$Te and $^{121}$Sb with a sapphire backscattering monochromator is presented. This technique was applied to measure nuclear inelastic scattering in TeO$_2$ at pressures up to 10 GPa and temperatures down to 25 K. [...]

Orientation of the ground-state orbital in $\mathrm{CeCoIn_5}$ and $\mathrm{CeRhIn_5}$
We present core level nonresonant inelastic x-ray scattering (NIXS) data of the heavy-fermion compounds CeCoIn$_5$ and CeRhIn$_5$ measured at the Ce $N_{4,5}$ edges. The higher than dipole transitions in NIXS allow determining the orientation of the $\Gamma_7$ crystal-field ground-state orbital within the unit cell. [...]

The Orientation of Strain-Induced Crystallites in Uniaxially-Strained, Thin and Wide Bands Made from Natural Rubber
Crystals 9(6), 294 () [10.3390/cryst9060294]  GO
Vulcanized natural rubber (unfilled and filled with 20 phr carbon black) is strained. Wesuppress the macroscopic formation of fiber symmetry by choosing strip‐shaped samples(ʺpure‐shear geometryʺ) and investigate the orientation of the resulting crystallites bytwo‐dimensional wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD), additionally rotating the sample tapeabout the straining direction. [...]

On-chip crystallization for serial crystallography experiments and on-chip ligand-binding studies
IUCrJ 6(4), 714 - 728 () [10.1107/S2052252519007395]  GO
Efficient and reliable sample delivery has remained one of the bottlenecks for serial crystallography experiments. Compared with other methods, fixed-target sample delivery offers the advantage of significantly reduced sample consumption and shorter data collection times owing to higher hit rates [...]

New dynamic diamond anvil cells for tera-pascal per second fast compression x-ray diffraction experiments
Fast compression experiments performed using dynamic diamond anvil cells (dDACs) employing piezoactuators offer the opportunity to study compression-rate dependent phenomena. In this paper, we describe an experimental setup which allows us to perform time-resolved x-ray diffraction during the fast compression of materials using improved dDACs. [...]

Widely tunable GaAs bandgap via strain engineering in core/shell nanowires with large lattice mismatch
The realisation of photonic devices for different energy ranges demands materials with different bandgaps, sometimes even within the same device. The optimal solution in terms of integration, device performance and device economics would be a simple material system with widely tunable bandgap and compatible with the mainstream silicon technology [...]

Synchrotron X-ray fluorescence mapping of Ca, Sr and Zn at the neonatal line in human deciduous teeth reflects changing perinatal physiology
Objectives: Our first objective was to review the evidence describing the appearance and microstructure of theneonatal line in human deciduous teeth and to link this with known changes in neonatal physiology occurring atand around birth. A second objective was to explore ways to improve identification of the neonatal line bymapping the pre- and postnatal distribution of Ca, Sr and Zn in deciduous cuspal enamel and superimposingthese maps onto transmitted light micrographs that included a clear true section of the neonatal line.Materials and methods: We used synchrotron X-ray fluorescence to map elemental distributions in pre- andpostnatal enamel and dentine. MicroX-ray absorption near edge structure tomography reveals cell-specific changes of Zn ligands in leaves of turnip yellow mosaic virus infected plants
As many metals are essential for plants, excess or deficiency of them or alteration of their uptake, translocation, sequestration or physiological use can have severe consequences for plant growth and fitness. Therefore, investigating the distribution and speciation of metals in tissues is essential to understand plant physiology. [...]
