A New Synthesis Approach for Carbon Nitrides: Poly(triazine imide) and Its Photocatalytic Properties
ACS omega 3(4), 3892 - 3900 () [10.1021/acsomega.8b00294]  GO
Poly(triazine imide) (PTI) is a materialbelonging to the group of carbon nitrides and has shown tohave competitive properties compared to melon or g-C3N4,especially in photocatalysis. As most of the carbon nitrides, PTIis usually synthesized by thermal or hydrothermal approaches. We present and discuss an alternative synthesis for PTI whichexhibits a pH-dependent solubility in aqueous solutions. Surface characterization of nitrogen-doped Nb (100) large-grain superconducting RF cavity material
(100) Oriented niobium (Nb) crystals annealed in the vacuum conditions close to that used in mass production of 1.3 GHz superconducting radio frequency cavities for linear accelerators and treated in nitrogen at a partial pressure of 0.04 mbar at temperatures of 800 and 900 °C have been studied. The surfaces of the nitrogen-treated samples were investigated by means of various surface-sensitive techniques, including grazing-incidence X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy in planar view and on cross-sections prepared by a focused ion beam. [...]

High-Performance n- and p-Type Field-Effect Transistors Based on Hybridly Surface-Passivated Colloidal PbS Nanosheets
Colloidally synthesized nanomaterials are among the promising candidates for future electronic devices due to their simplicity and the inexpensiveness of their production. Specifically, colloidal nanosheets are of great interest since they are conveniently producible through the colloidal approach while having the advantages of two‐dimensionality. [...]

Monitoring the Interaction of CO with Graphene Supported Ir Clusters by Vibrational Spectroscopy and Density Functional Theory Calculations
The interaction of carbon monoxide (CO) with graphene supported Ir cluster (Ir/graphene/Ir(111)) and a Ir(111) single crystal surface was studied by infrared reflection–adsorption spectroscopy (IRRAS). The cluster morphology was characterized by scanning tunneling microscopy and density functional theory (DFT) calculations predicted the adsorption frequencies of CO molecules on the Ir single crystal surface and clusters. [...]

Role of Precursor Carbides for Graphene Growth on Ni(111)
Surface X-ray Diffraction was used to study the transformation of a carbon-supersaturated carbidic precursor toward a complete single layer of graphene in the temperature region below 703 K without carbon supply from the gas phase. The excess carbon beyond the 0.45  monolayers of C atoms within a single Ni2C layer is accompanied by sharpened reflections of the |4772| superstructure, along with ring-like diffraction features resulting from non-coincidence rotated Ni2C-type domains. [...]

Toward Optimization of Centrifugal Barrel Polishing P rocedure for Treatment of Niobium Cavities
Centrifugal barrel polishing (CBP) is a simple and environmentally friendly method that can be applied for mechanical abrasion of the cavity interior in order to remove the mechanically damaged surface after its production. The CBP recipes described in the literature, however, require CBP to be performed in many stages, require long processing times and nevertheless are unable to provide good cavity RF performance without additional chemical processing. [...]

Identification of a Catalytically Highly Active Surface Phase for CO Oxidation over PtRh Nanoparticles under Operando Reaction Conditions
Pt-Rh alloy nanoparticles on oxide supports are widely employed in heterogeneous catalysis with applications ranging from automotive exhaust control to energy conversion. To improve catalyst performance, an atomic-scale correlation of the nanoparticle surface structure with its catalytic activity under industrially relevant operando conditions is essential [...]

Radial Growth of Self-Catalyzed GaAs Nanowires and the Evolution of the Liquid Ga-Droplet Studied by Time-Resolved in Situ X-ray Diffraction
Nano letters 18(1), 101 - 108 () [10.1021/acs.nanolett.7b03486]  GO
We report on a growth study of self-catalyzed GaAs nanowires based on time-resolved in situ X-ray structure characterization during molecular-beam-epitaxy in combination with ex situ scanning-electron-microscopy. We reveal the evolution of nanowire radius and polytypism and distinguish radial growth processes responsible for tapering and side-wall growth. [...]

Tailoring the magnetization states in 2D arrays of multiresponse ferromagnetic nanomagnets
We have fabricated ${\rm Fe}_{52-54}$ ${\rm Co}_{46-48}$ nanomagnet arrays as a function of several geometrical parameters like the spacing between nanostructures, the aspect ratio and the layers thicknesses. The nanomagnets consist in two magnetic layers, separated by a non magnetic interlayer, that interact through magnetostatic coupling. [...]
