Radial Growth of Self-Catalyzed GaAs Nanowires and the Evolution of the Liquid Ga-Droplet Studied by Time-Resolved in Situ X-ray Diffraction

We report on a growth study of self-catalyzed GaAs nanowires based on time-resolved in situ X-ray structure characterization during molecular-beam-epitaxy in combination with ex situ scanning-electron-microscopy. We reveal the evolution of nanowire radius and polytypism and distinguish radial growth processes responsible for tapering and side-wall growth. [...]

Tailoring the magnetization states in 2D arrays of multiresponse ferromagnetic nanomagnets

We have fabricated ${\rm Fe}_{52-54}$ ${\rm Co}_{46-48}$ nanomagnet arrays as a function of several geometrical parameters like the spacing between nanostructures, the aspect ratio and the layers thicknesses. In this chapter surface-sensitive X-ray diffraction is introduced as an important crystallographic tool for the investigation of surfaces and nanostructures under high pressure reaction conditions and elevated temperatures which are relevant for industrial catalysis. High-energy x-ray diffraction from surfaces and nanoparticles

High-energy surface-sensitive x-ray diffraction (HESXRD) is a powerful high-energy photon technique (E>70 keV) that has in recent years proven to allow a fast data acquisition for the 3D structure determination of surfaces and nanoparticles under in situ and operando conditions. The use of a large-area detector facilitates thedirect collection of nearly distortion-free diffraction patterns over a wide q range, including crystal truncation rods perpendicular to the surface and large-area reciprocal space maps from epitaxial nanoparticles, which is not possible in the conventional low-photon energy approach (E=10−20 keV).
